On November 22, 2013, as the 120 year anniversary of our university draws near, five alumni of the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Science came back early. They were: Dr. Huang Jincai, Southeast Asia Region COO of Italy’s Generali Group; Dr. Wang Wenxiang, General Office Director of China Life Insurance Co., Ltd; Dr. Zhang Lianghua, President of Minsheng Royal Asset Management Co., Ltd; Dr. Wu Yueping, professor at School of Finance, Henan University of Economics and Law; and Dr. Xie Jinyu, President of Ningbo subdivision, Sun Life Everbright Life Co., Ltd.

At 3:00 PM on November 23, the alumni sat down with students of the department for a symposium in the B433 conference room. Before the discussion, the vice dean, associate professor Pan Guochen delivered letters of engagement for extra-school advisors to Dr. Huang and Dr. Wang in the university’s name.

During the symposium, the alumni introduced their experiences of learning and working, and examined the current status of the insurance business. They spoke about the prospects of the insurance business in the “new economies” climate, and discussed with the students about the topics of “what and how one should learn” based on their own experiences, providing guidance and examples to the students. In the end, they patiently answered the students’ questions, and encouraged them to develop themselves fully and set high goals. The fruitful symposium ended after two hours of in-depth discussion.
